Spring Show 2011

spring09.JPG

I feel certain everyone will agree the Spring Show 2011 was truly wonderful, particularly the display of Daffodils.  Certainly, there was interpretation when deciding which class to place your Daffodil.  Phil Baxter, the Horticultural Judge, was very pleased his comments had been worked on during the year and we were giving it a go!   At the Show arrangements were made with the Judge that for this year, he should view the Show for incorrect placements, move them to their rightful place and then judge the Show.  Surprisingly only 6 were moved.  Phil very kindly brought a sample of each of the classes (which we placed at the Hall entrance) in an effort to clarify things.  I have been made aware that some members, on returning home, went into their gardens and looked again at their Daffodils with increased interest and awareness – so perhaps we have taken a positive step and roll on Spring Show 2012.  We have compiled a Daffodil Division Guide which is available on the Spring Show Page of the website now and we will distribute this before next Spring’s show to hopefully assist further. But Daffodils were not the only entrants – delightful floral arrangements, flowers in vases, bread, cakes, cheese straws, jams all enhanced the tables.  As you entered the Hall one was hit by a huge, wonderful, colourful display.  I would particularly like to mention the children who entered excellent cookery, collages – not to mention the terrific fluffy lambs – all of whom grazed peacefully at the end of a table! As always, my thanks to a wonderful team who give invaluable help on the day.   Stephanie Pyne
