"Casa Mia" Little Totham

Members enjoying Casa Mia

A wonderful, hot, sunny afternoon was the backdrop to this year's Society visit to Casa Mia in Great Totham. Casa Mia has been the garden of Mr & Mrs Walker since 1986. Built on the site of an old brick quarry the garden forms a valley with a stream running through the bottom creating an area of bog garden which enjoys damp conditions and woodland shade all year round. There were beautiful rhododendrons, hostas, primulas, hydrangeas and other shade loving plants. The fantastic hostas were already fully grown and suspiciously unravaged by slugs; perhaps the tadpoles in one of the three ponds a clue as to why.

Seating areas provided in some welcome shade were happily adopted whilst members enoyed the teas and a fabulous selection of homemade cakes. This garden is really one of the hidden jewels of Essex and we thank Ted and Linda Walker for a truly pleasant afternoon.
